What is Life Shop?

Life Shop is free for teens ages 13–18. We give teens the tools they need to discover and fulfill their goals, while making an impact in the world around them. Plus, they’ll have a ton of fun along the way.

Is Life Shop part of the Boys & Girls Club of Utah County?

Life Shop is at the Boys & Girls Club of Utah County, in their Provo clubhouse — that is where the classes, the gear and the free dinners are.

Right now Provo is the only place Life Shop runs, and we hope to bring it to more locations.

What is your mission?

Life Shop’s mission is to empower teens to envision and pursue life aspirations by providing essential life skills, mentorship, and a welcoming environment for self-discovery and achieving goals.

How much does it cost?

Nothing. There is no membership fee and no charge for classes. Life Shop is funded through the sale of Life Shop merchandise and community support.

Who can come?

Any teen ages 13–18.

What classes do you run?

Life Shop classes cover how to succeed in school, career guidance, stress management, budgeting and investing, ACT/SAT test preparation, mechanical and technology tools and skills, and more.

What is there to do besides classes?

After every class there is an activity. There is a basketball court and an open field for pickleball, volleyball, frisbee golf, lawn games, nine square in the air, cornhole and RC car racing, plus ping pong and open gym. Then Open Shop: driving simulators, RC and slot car racing, 3D printers, Xbox and Nintendo Switch, board and card games, billiards, the huge mobile skate park, and podcast recording, editing and posting.

Friday nights are tournament nights, and there is a free dinner and a free snack every day.

How do I join?

Life Shop is free. The one thing that has to happen first is that a parent or guardian registers you through the Boys & Girls Club of Utah County and signs the permission form. It takes a few minutes and only has to be done once.

If you’re a teen reading this: send the link below to a parent, and they can do it from their phone.

Is this a new location?

Yes. Life Shop opens Monday, August 24 inside the brand-new Provo clubhouse at the Boys & Girls Club of Utah County — the building has only just been completed, and Life Shop is opening as part of its grand opening.

Most of the photos on this site were taken at the first two Life Shops, in Lehi and at Provo Town Center Mall. The gear, the murals, the classes and the people all move with us, so the new space will look and feel the same — just bigger. More about Life Shop →

Life Shop rules & information

There is really only one rule, and that one rule can be stated in one word… RESPECT!

Respect others

One of the best thoughts to live by in everything you do and everyone you interact with is to think more of others than yourself. Put yourself in the shoes of the person or people you are talking or interacting with and ask yourself if you would like to be treated or talked to the way you are treating or talking to them. If you do that, we won’t have any problems, and everyone will get along.

Respect the Life Shop building and everything in it

Be aware of the space around you and the fun there is to be had there. If we don’t take care of the space and all of the equipment there, we won’t be able to enjoy it anymore. When you become a member of Life Shop, this space becomes yours to share with the other staff and members here. Remember that, and treat it that way.

Things do happen though, and things will get broken, and that’s ok. So, the policy is that if you break it, you fix it. We will facilitate in helping you fix things that break, but we expect you to be a part of taking care of the space and making sure things are working as they should so you and others can continue to use them.

Respect yourself

If anyone is treating you in a way that you don’t agree with, or appreciate, or you don’t feel respected by anyone there, please find a staff member and let us know. We will help you handle the situation so that it doesn’t happen again and so that you always feel comfortable and excited to come to Life Shop and see everyone and everything there is here.
